🐾 Dog-Friendly Beaches Near Chelmsford: Easy Summer Days Out

As summer starts creeping in, a lot of people begin thinking about getting out more — day trips, fresh air, and a bit of a change from the usual routine.

But if you’ve got a dog, it’s not always that simple.

Finding somewhere for them to stay can be tricky, and the cost of kennels or dog boarding can quickly add up. On top of that, not every dog settles well away from home — which can take the fun out of your trip before it’s even started.

That’s why more and more people are choosing a simpler option:

👉 Plan days out where your dog can come along too.

It’s easier, often cheaper, and (let’s be honest) more enjoyable when they’re part of it.

And living in Chelmsford, you’ve got some great beach options nearby that make this really doable.

🌊 West Mersea Beach

One of the easiest seaside trips from Chelmsford, and ideal if you want something that doesn’t require loads of planning.

This is a great option if you like having facilities close by, so you’re not carrying everything with you.

What you’ll find:

  • CafĂŠs and food spots along the seafront
  • Picnic areas and places to sit
  • Ice cream stops and small shops
  • Easy parking nearby

It’s perfect for a relaxed “turn up and enjoy it” kind of day.

🐚 Bradwell Beach

If your dog prefers quieter environments (or you just want a slower-paced day), Bradwell is a great shout.

There aren’t loads of built-in facilities — but that’s part of the appeal.

Best for:

  • Bringing your own picnic
  • Avoiding busy crowds
  • Letting your dog explore without too much going on

It’s a simple, low-cost day out that still feels like a proper break.

🏖️ Walton-on-the-Naze Beach

If you want something with a bit more going on, Walton is a solid option.

It’s especially useful if you like having the option to sit down, grab food, or even rent a beach hut.

What’s available:

  • Beach huts for hire
  • CafĂŠs and takeaway food
  • Picnic benches and seating
  • A proper sandy beach (great for dogs that love to run)

It’s a good middle ground between convenience and space.

🌾 Frinton-on-Sea Beach

Frinton is ideal if you’re after something quieter but still well-kept.

It’s the kind of place where you can set up for a few hours without feeling rushed.

Why it works:

  • Plenty of space
  • Picnic areas along the front
  • Less crowded than nearby beaches
  • Great for steady walks and relaxed time with your dog

⚠️ Quick Heads-Up

During the summer months (usually May–September), some beaches have dog restrictions in certain areas.

There’s almost always a dog-friendly section nearby — just keep an eye on signs when you arrive 👍

🐾 A Little Note from Me

Taking your dog along on days out like these is always the ideal — and it’s such a lovely way to include them in your plans.

But sometimes it’s just not possible. Whether it’s a longer trip, a busy schedule, or somewhere that isn’t dog-friendly, finding the right option for your dog can feel like a bit of a challenge.

That’s where I can help.

I offer pet sitting and home visits, so your dog can stay in their own familiar space, stick to their usual routine, and still get the care and attention they’re used to — without the need for kennels.

You’ll also get updates during visits, so you can relax knowing how they’re getting on while you’re away.
